BECOME A VOLUNTEER
WITH THE HERITAGE GLASS MUSEUM
Volunteers are an essential part of the Heritage Glass Museum. As a Volunteer, you will learn about South Jersey’s history, and our unique Glassmaking tradition. You will interact with our creative and supportive community of artists, collectors, educators, students, and visitors. Each position involves a commitment of a few hours per week.

We are CURRENTLY seeking volunteers for the following positions:
MUSEUM DOCENTS
The Museum Docent role involves working in the Museum during scheduled hours to greet visitors, lead short tours, answer questions, provide general care of the gallery space, and assist with the gift shop. The Museum is currently open only on Saturdays from 11 am to 2 pm; however, we would like to add hours on Sunday afternoon, and Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday up to 8 pm. We ask docents to help staff the museum at least one 3 hour shift a month. Of course, more is always greatly appreciated. This position is great for enthusiastic college students interested in gaining experience. It’s also a great volunteer opportunity for teachers or retire friends who want to give back to the community.
MUSEUM EDUCATOR
This Volunteer role will work with our Board of Trustees to create and support an educational program for the Museum. This includes collaborating with K-12 teachers and College professors, developing lesson plans, leading group tours, and assisting at Museum events. Experience in education or teaching is required. The ideal museum educator would also have experience with technology. This position is great for a new Museum educator or teacher interested in gaining experience. It’s also a great volunteer opportunity for retired teacher who want to give back to the community.
MUSEUM LIBRARIAN and ARCHIVIST
The Museum Librarian and Archivist would manage our extensive library, which includes books, magazines, newsletters, and a variety of file cabinets of historical documents. Our Librarian would also collaborate with our Collections Committee to manage our collection, process donations, and inventory artifacts. This position would provide experience i handling historic artifacts and documents, cataloguing, museum inventors, and a variety of museum studies and library topics. The Museum Librarian and Archivist position will provide great experience for a new Librarian or Museum Studies student.MUSEUM TRUSTEE
As a member of the Board of Trustees, a Museum Trustee helps to manage the Museum with a team of other well respected and experienced members from the community. Trustees help develop our strategic plan, set goals and policy, ensure funding, chair committees, and help staff the Museum. Trustees are expected to attend our monthly meeting (2 hours a month), collaborate on a committee (estimated 1-2 hours month), and staff one shift per month (3 hours a month). To become a Museum Trustee we require at least 3 months of volunteering at the Heritage Glass Museum or substantial experience. A résumé and references are required.
